Abstract

611,940. Slipping dutches. LISTER & CO., Ltd., R. A., and HIGGINS, W. J. May 13, 1946, No. 14458. [Class 80 (ii)] A flexible drive for a shearing device includes a clutch which is adapted to slip when a predetermined overload occurs. A plunger 4 is screwed into a member 2 secured to the flexible shaft 1 and locked therewith by means of a lock-nut 5. A bayonet joint part for engaging drive means on. the shearing device is slidably and rotatably mounted on the plunger 4, and axially located: in one direction with respect thereto by a shoulder 10 on the member 6 engaging ahead 9 on the plunger 4. An operating bush 11 is slidably keyed to the plunger 4 and has an axial projection 15 with a curved or incline'd face which is forced into engagement with a similarly shaped notch in the member 6 by a compression spring 14 acting between the lock-nut 5 and an adjacent face of the bush 11. On overload, disengagement of the projection 15 with the notch 16 is effected, and the operating' bush 11 is forced axially against the action of the spring 14.
