Abstract
611,608. Washing sand &c. SEELY, J. A. March 3, 1944, No.-3976. [Class 82(ii)] In a machine for washing sand and gravel, the material is fed by a pipe 12 into the imperforate section 3 of a rotary washing drum mounted on a shaft 6 supported by bearings on the top of a tank 1 and is caused by a spiral 13 to pass into the perforate sections 4 of the drum. The material passing through the drum falls on to an inclined surface 18 in the tank and passes in the opposite direction in the tank to where it is removed by a rotary lifter 5a also mounted on the shaft 6. An annular wall 10 is arranged between the drums 3, 4 and an annular wall 11 is arranged at the outer end of the drum 4. Material remaining in the drum 4 which may be provided with a feed spiral is removed by lifters 16 and deposited in a shoot 17, and some of the material in the tank which passes beyond the lifter 5a and through a perforated baffle 21 is removed by another rotary lifter 5b also mounted on the shaft 6. Metal reducing balls may be provided in the drum 4. Nozzles 19 are provided for spraying the outside of the drum 4, and other nozzles to assist the flow of the material down the surface 18 and to spray the material in both drums may be provided.
