Abstract
610,770. Chucks; indexing. HANCOCK, W. A. April 16, 1946, No. 11658. [Class 83 (iii)] A bevel closing chuck has a collet c forced into a conical bore of a spindle d by means of a ring e splined to the spindle and moved axially by a screwed connection with a rotating ring f carrying a ring of teeth f rotatable by a handoperated pinion. A spigot on the pinion is engageable with one of a number of holes j in a ring h secured to the spindle and a freely rotatable toothed ring g forms a backing for the pinion to prevent it from springing out of engagement with the teeth f<SP>3</SP>. The chuck may be rotated by a pulley l keyed to the spindle or, for dividing purposes, a spring bolt p<SP>2</SP> may be engaged with recesses l<SP>1</SP> in the pulley. The bolt p<SP>2</SP> is retractable from the pulley by a hand lever q pivoted at r to the spindle housing b and having a slot engaging a pin s on the bolt. The lever q may be locked in the withdrawn position by a screw t when the chuck is being rotated continuously. The housing b is angularly adjustable about a vertical axis by means of a spigot a<SP>1</SP>. An ejector rod d<SP>1</SP> is mounted axially with the hollow spindle d.
