Abstract
610,401. Adjustable shaft-couplings. BROWN & SONS (HUDDERSFIELD), Ltd., D., and BALMFORTH, N. Dec. 14, 1946, No. 36936. Addition to 602,616. [Class 80 (ii)] [Also in Group XIX] The apparatus disclosed in the parent Specification for applying a torque between the output shafts a, b of two gear mechanisms under test is modified to avoid the use of endthrust bearings. An axially-movable shaft c carries an intermediate member f which engages, by means of spur and helical teeth respectively, an outer member g and a cylinder e for a piston d also carried by the shaft c. Oil, admitted through a bearing and distributing sleeve h to either side of the piston, tends to move the intermediate member axially and so to apply a torque between the shafts a and b to which the cylinder and outer member are respectively connected.
