Abstract
628,665. Universal joints. AKTIEBOLAGET SVENSKA KULLAGERFABRIKEN. June 12, 1947, No. 15560. Convention date, June 18, 1946. [Class 80 (ii)] A coupling for rolling mills or the like having substantially co-axial shafts 1, 2, comprises a pair of universal joints each having an adjusting block 4, one or more torque transmitting members 5 slidable in the blocks, and a sleeve 6 surrounding the universal joints, which is engaged with the member 5 to transmit substantially the whole of the torque. As shown the universal joints comprise the heads 3 fixed to the shafts 1, 2 and having adjusting blocks 4 filling transverse cylindrical bores, the blocks being slotted to slidably receive the flat member 5 which is in torque transmitting relation with the sleeve 6. An oil retainer 8 and passages 9 are provided for lubricant, which is held in the coupling by the flexible cover 10.
