Abstract
610,366. Manually-actuated valves. COCKBURNS, Ltd., RODGER, J., and GRANT, T. April 1, 1946, No. 9970. [Class 135] A stop valve comprises a body having inlet and outlet branches 11, r2, Fig. 1, the flow between which is controlled by a closure member or piston 14 operated through a spindle 17 and a rotatable nut 21 carrying a hand wheel 22, the space above the piston being connected with the space below the valve seat by a passage 24, Fig. 2, in the valve body controlled by a quick-action auxiliary valve 25. Assuming the piston 14 to be on its seat, opening of the valve 25 will result in balancing the pressures on either side of the piston 14 so that it may be easily opened. Where the branches 11, 12 form the outlet and the inlet respectively, opening of the valye 25 connects the upper side of the piston to exhaust so that the piston may be readily opened.
