Abstract

The heat-shrinkage of yarns, fibres, bristles, films and fabrics of highly polymeric aromatic esters, e.g. polyethylene terephthalate, is reduced and their shape rendered permanent by subjecting the articles, which have been molecularly oriented by drawing, to the action of steam at a temperature between 100 DEG and 150 DEG C., and at least 20 DEG C. below their softening point, while they are maintained in the shape it is desired to set. Specification 504,344 is referred to.ALSO:The heat-shrinkage of yarns, fibres, bristles, films and fabrics of highly polymeric aromatic esters, e.g. polyethylene terephthalate, is reduced and their shape rendered permanent by subjecting the articles, which have been molecularly oriented by drawing, to the action of steam at a temperature between 100 DEG and 150 DEG C., and at least 20 DEG C. below their softening point, while they are maintained in the shape it is desired to set.
