Abstract

A waterproof adhesive material comprises bitumen, preferably oxidized, together with 3 per cent to 20 per cent by weight of hydrogenated methyl abietate and 2 per cent to 20 per cent by weight of unvulcanized rubber. Reinforcing agents, such as cotton linters mascerated cellulose fibres or short rayon fibres, vulcanizers accelerators or anti-oxidants may be included. The material may be prepared by masticating the unvulcanized rubber into the hydrogenated methyl abietate and then dispersing this rubber in bitumen at 300 DEG F. to 400 DEG F., preferably at 350 DEG F.
