Abstract

Metal surfaces, e.g. iron, steel, zinc, are coated by spraying on a mixture of a metal powder and not more than 25 per cent (calculated on the weight of the mixture) of a finely-divided compatible non-metallic pore-filling substance by means of a pistol, e.g. a "Schori" pistol, in which the non-metallic substance is melted or rendered plastic so as to adhere to the surface in a coherent film. Powdered zinc, tin, lead, aluminium or their alloys are examples of suitable metals, whilst polymerized methyl methacrylate, polyvinyl acetate, polythene, silicone resins, polytetrafluorethylene, phenolformaldehyde resins, urea-formaldehyde resins, synthetic rubbers such as "Thiokol" (Registered Trade Mark), shellac and natural and synthetic waxes are examples of a compatible non-metallic substance. Specifications 432,831, 468,753, [both in Group II], 538,203 and 574,124, [Group XXIII], are referred to.ALSO:Metal surfaces, e.g. iron, steel, zinc, are coated by spraying on a mixture of a metal powder and not more than 25 per cent (calculated on the weight of the mixture) of a finely-divided compatible non-metallic pore-filling substance by means of a pistol, e.g. a "Schori" pistol, in which the non-metallic substance is melted or rendered plastic so as to adhere to the surface as a coherent film.
