Abstract
608,207. Grinding skate blades. FORRESTER, P. M. Feb. 18, 1946, No. 5078. [Class 60] A method of grinding or regrinding the blades of ice skates consists in using one blade of a pair of blades as a profile-template and grinding or re-grinding the second blade of the same pair of blades in accordance with the profiletemplate formed by the other blade. Skate blades 16, 18 of a pair of skates are clamped on either side of a support 88 along the centre of which is slidable a base-plate 46 carrying an upright 44 and an electric motor 132. A frame 32 pivoted about a horizontal axis in the upright 44 carries at its free end a grinding- wheel 12 driven by the motor 132 and adapted to grind the blade 16, and an adjustable follower 14 adapted to engage the other blade 18. Thus, as the base-plate 46 is traversed along the bed of the support 88, the blade 18 acts as a profiletemplate to which shape the blade 16 is ground. The blades may then be substituted for one another and the blade 18 ground, using the blade 16 as the template. An adjustable stop 66 is fitted on the frame 32 to prevent the grinding-wheel from dropping when it reaches the end of the skate blade. As an alternative, the grinding-wheel and follower means may remain stationary and the blades be traversed thereunder.
