Abstract
608,100. Structural beams for vehicle bodies. ALCOCK, A. M., and EAST LANCASHIRE COACH BUILDERS, Ltd. Feb. 15, 1946, No. 4778. [Classes 103 (iv) and 108 (i)] [Also in Group X] A structural member particularly for supporting the metal panels of vehicles comprises a main loadbearing solid T-section member A, preferably rolled, and a member B formed of sheet metal bent up to T-section, the stem B<SP>4</SP> being formed with a channel to fit tightly over the stem of the T-section member A and being welded or otherwise fixed thereto. The base B<SP>2</SP> of the channel in the stem B<SP>4</SP> of the member B forms a recess in which a weld scarf can lie, pieces being cut out of the base B<SP>2</SP> at spaced intervals to permit the weld to contact the stem of member A. Metal panels C are shown secured to the member B by rivets E.
