Abstract

Frame components, sections and forms of, and applying and combing.-The chassis framings of motor vehicles are formed by component girders built up of flat sheet metal plates or strips welded together, the components being welded to one another to build up a complete frame devoid of rivets, bolts, and like securing means. By this method of construction the cross section of the individual girders can be varied at different points in accordance with the distribution of the load on the girder. Fig. 2 shows closed-section boxshaped longitudinal girders built up of flanged vertical plates 8 welded to horizontal plates 10, 11. Flanged cross members 4 are welded to the longitudinal girders and to the welded engine framing 12. The component metal plates may be cut to size and shaped by a cold pressing operation, autogenous welding being used for making the connections.
