607,930. Stays for hinged articles; hinges. SMYE, A. Jan. 18, 1947, No. 1693. Addition to 565,082. [Classes 65 (i) and 65 (ii)] A stay comprising two members 10 and 11 formed with interengaging radial corrugations, the members being pivotally mounted on a pivot element 12 and urged together by spring pressure, is characterised in that the pivot element is so constructed that the two members can be separated permanently only by de- . formation of one .of the parts forming the stay, the spring pressure being obtained from a spring 14 having a number of radially extending arms. As shown, the pivot element comprises a screwed stud carrying a nut 13 adapted to adjust the spring pressure, the end of the stud being riveted over at 16. The members are made separate from and of lighter gauge material than the stay arms 17. In a modification, the pivot element comprises a stud formed with a number of axially spaced shoulders, with any one of which the spring can be engaged for the purpose of adjusting the spring pressure.
