Abstract

Building elements, such as boards, blocks, tiles and slabs, are manufactured by treating a fibrous material or a mixture of fibrous materials with an aqueous solution of sodium silicate, drying the treated material and then mixing it with an aqueous solution of sodium silicate of 75 DEG Twaddell strength to form a plastic mass, rolling or otherwise working the mass into the form of the elements desired between adherent sheets of flexible material such as paper, and thereafter drying. The fibrous materials may be sawdust, bark, straw, flax shives, reeds, asbestos and slag wool. Specifications 551,658, 551,701, 557,370 and 557,371 are referred to.
