Abstract
605,731. Clutches. HEMMETER, G. T. Nov. 28, 1945, No. 32118. [Class 80 (ii)] [Also in Groups II and XXXIV] A hydraulically-operated positive clutch for the high-speed drive of a washing-machine comprises a pulley 492, Fig. 19, with an integral bearing sleeve 491 which runs on sleeves 482, 488 fast on the shaft 435. The sleeve 482 has an extension 484 which is made outwardly flexible by axial slits and deep grooves 483. Within the extension 484 is a rubber sleeve 476 sealed at 479 to the shaft. To close the clutch, pressure water is introduced through bore 464 and port 493, distends the rubber sleeve 476 and forces the extension 484 into driving contact with the sleeve 491.
