Abstract
605,537. Loft ladders. LOFT LADDERS. Ltd., and BERNER, C. A. O. Dec. 28. 1945, No. 35129. [Class 20(ii)] In a loft ladder of the kind in which the weight of the ladder is counterbalanced by a spring and plunger enclosed in a tube and applying tension to a chain or cord. the tube or other guide 5 is disposed along the ladder 1 so as to form a handrail. The chain 10, secured to the plunger 12. passes downwards through the spring 11, over the pulley 15 and up behind the treads 17 of the ladder, and is anchored at 18 near the loft opening. The arrangement may be duplicated to provide two handrails. For assembly, the spring is held in compression by a pin 16 above the plunger 12. Under. working conditions the plunger is retained by a pin 14. The movement of the ladder may be controlled by pivoted rods 3 or by rollers and shaped guides. The trap door 4 may be hinged to the ceiling or placed on the top section of the ladder as shown. Specifications 392.940, 453,968, 453,969 and 492,303 are referred to.
