604,541. Frictional igniters. KONRAD. H. Nov. 26, 1945, Nos. 31874 and 31875. Convention dates, Nov. 27, 1944, and April 26. 1945. [Classes 75(i) and 75(iii) In a telescopic igniter, the friction wheel 14, Fig, 3, is fixed to the outer tube 1. The inner tube 2 may carry a plate 4 provided with a spring 7 and in which slides a tube 11 attached to a block 12 screwed to the outer tube 1. The plate 4 carries a pin 21 so that when the tubes are pressed together this pin at the end of the sliding movement engages an abutment 20 and rotates a disc 17 against the action of a spring 19 till catches 16 cooperate with notches in the friction wheel 14 to rotate the wheel. The spring 7 maintains the tubes normally apart and also urges the flint 9, sparks from which ignite the wick which burns at 10, a window 23 and ventilation holes 24 being uncovered when the parts are telescoped together. Grooved collars 26 on the tube 2 allow passage of the powder produced by the wear of the flint 9. The inner tube 2 may contain benzine and be closed by a cover 3, Fig. 3. Alternatively, the tubes 2 may be closed by a cover 33, Fig. 8, carrying a hollow felt cylinder 34 which has been dipped in liquid fuel.
