Abstract

603,713. Bolts nuts ; bolt-hole bushes. MARRIOTT, C. W., and COYNE, J. F. Feb. 1, 1945, No. 2554. [Class 89 (i)] Nut and bolt devices, usable where one side of the work is inaccessible, comprise nuts with skirts 7b, Fig. 2, split for resilience and sleeves 8b on the bolts with polygonal &c. flanges 8a for preventing rotation during tightening of the bolt. The edges 8c of the sleeves are bevelled so that after inserting from the top as shown in the Figure, tightening of the bolts causes expansion of the skirts 7b so that the edges engage the underside of the plate B. The bevel surface may be serrated &c. to prevent the nut from rotating. The bevelled ends of the sleeves 8b may be split to close on the bolt for locking. In a modification, the skirts form part of the bolt heads and ordinary nuts are employed in contact with the flanges 8a. Specifications 343,992 and 436,238 are referred to.
