[Class 38 (v)] A starter switch for an electric discharge lamp comprises two bimetal strips a, d mounted on leads c, e to move in the same direction for ambient temperature compensation. The heater h is mounted just below the bend b in the bimetal strip a so that the distance of the heater from the bend remains substantially constant during operation. The contacts f, g are of tungsten, but if the gas - filled envelope is omitted, non-oxidising metal is used.
