Abstract

602,534. Washing granular material. DOMANIALE MIJN-MAATSCHAPPIJ N. V., and TROMP, K. F. Oct. 16, 1945, No. 27060. [Class 82(ii)] An apparatus for separating granular materials having different specific gravities by means of a liquid contained in a tank having a substantially cylindrical bottom and provided with a rotary drum for removing the sunk products, has the drum mounted within the tank with its circumference in spaced relation to the inner face of the tank bottom, disposed with its axis in parallel relation to the direction of travel of the floating product and, in addition to a section having an impervious shell on its outer surface with a helical rib just clearing the inner face of the tank, has an open section disposed in series with the closed section. As shown, a tank of similar construction to that described in Specification 530,742 has mounted within it a drum comprising a front ring 17, a centre ring 20 between which are mounted blades 21, an impervious shell 23 and a helical rib 24, and a rear ring 19 between which and the centre ring 20 are mounted blades 22 which may be perforated, tapered from front to rear and fewer in number than those in the front section. The sunken material which is collected in pockets formed by the blades 21 and shell 23, is discharged, after partial de-watering through a screen, Fig. 3 not shown, on to a conveyer belt 27. The drum may be driven by friction or by gear wheels 32 co-operating with pins 18 fitted to the rings 17 and 19 to form a lantern wheel.
