Abstract
364,348. Centrifugal machines. BROADBENT & SONS, Ltd., T. and HALLITT, W., Central Ironworks, Huddersfield. Jan. 12, 1931, No. 974. [Class 23.] A centrifugal machine for separating solids from liquids has a screw b to conduct the solids to the discharge apertures v, and the drum a is formed with three parts a<1>, a<3>, a<2> which form three separate working zones. The drum is supported by, and rotates with, the shaft d, while the screw b is rotated from the shaft through the gearing h. The top part a<1> of the drum is cylindrical and the bottom part a<2> is tapered; the intermediate part a<3> is tapered and its wall is inclined to the axis at a greater angle than that of the part a<2>. A baffle ring m extends outwardly from the part f carrying the screw b; it bridges the space k between the upper part of the wall f and the inner periphery of the screw b. The space k is divided by vertical ribs n. The material is fed through the hopper p and passes through the ports s below the ring m to the drum a<3> where it undergoes separation. The solids are carried downwards by the screw and lose the adherent liquid while they travel through the drum a<2>; the liquid moves upward through the space k and any solid carried by the liquid is thrown to the screw b. The clean liquid passes into the casing t.
