Abstract
600,051. Thermal switches. McGRAW ELECTRIC CO. Oct. 1, 1945, No. 25453. Convention date, April 2. [Class 38 (v)] A thermal-switch in an electric-iron, which may be that of Specification 600,050, is adjustable by a wheel 103 which is detachably fixed to a hub 95 rotatable in an insulating-column 77, which is secured to the iron casing 51 by a plate 83, screws 85, 87 and spacers 84, 86, but is spaced from the insulating handle 61 of the iron. The handle 61 is supported by a metal rod 73 of low thermalconductivity, such as stainless steel. The thermalswitch comprises a bimetal bar 21 mounted in an aperture 19 in the sole-plate 13, and adapted on increase in temperature, to move a plunger 39 downwardly so that a spring-blade 29 separates from a spring- blade 31, movement of which is prevented by a spring-arm 47. The arm 47 is adjustable by a screw 91 threaded in a fixed bracket 53 and having lugs 101 slidable in slots in the hub 95. For setting, the wheel 103 is rotated anticlockwise so that the rod 73 engages one end of an arcuate-slot 109 therein (Fig. 2), the hub 95 is then depressed to disengage serration 107 from serrations in the wheel 103, and rotated until the contacts 30, 32 are just open. The hub is then returned by a spring 94 to re-engage the wheel 103 to which it is then secured by a nut 111. A split-plug 119 carrying an indicating-dial 115 is pressed into an opening 123 in the hub 95. The handle is attached to the casing at the rear, by a plate 67 and screws and spaces similarly to the column 77.
