Abstract
774,911. Thermal switches; actuation of switches. TAYLOR, E. H. July 8, 1955 [July 8, 1954], No. 20020/54. Class 38(5) An electric switch comprises a multilegged snap action spring blade similar to that in Specification 657,434 and means for varying the buckling of the blade. As shown the blade is bimetallic and the bridge part 4 which connects the two outer legs is rigidly mounted at its two ends 8. The centre 24 of the bridge part is depressed by a threaded rod 13 on rotation of a knob 26 thereby varying the buckling of the blade and hence the temperature at which a moving contact 5 carried by the middle leg of the blade snaps into or out of engagement with a fixed contact. Modifications are described in which the middle of the bridge part is held and the outer ends move. If the blade is not bimetallic but merely resilient metal, the means acting on the bridge part to effect the variation in buckling move sufficiently to operate the switch.
