Abstract
599,599. Stud-and-socket fastenings. DZUS, W. Sept. 21, 1945, No. 24572. [Class 44] In a stud-and-socket fastener in which the socket 18, Fig. 1, is formed with longitudinal slots and is associated with a spring 36 having a cross-bar extending through the slots and engaging helical or inclined slots 21 in the stud 20, the socket body is formed from a one-piece blank, and the spring is pre-loaded by being wound under tension around the socket body. The socket body, formed to shape from the blank, is placed on a mandrel and the spring wire is inserted, to its mid-length, through the slots 38, Fig. 4, and the ends wound as shown towards the upper end of the socket body so that the cross-bar is pressed against the end of the slots. Lugs 47, Fig. 10, may be provided on the socket to limit the deflection of the spring. The stud may be of the type described in Specification 414,290.
