Abstract

599,533. Pipe joints. SOC. CONTINENTALE ET COLONIALE DE CONSTRUCTION SOC. ANON. Sept. 26, 1945, No. 24984. Convention date, Oct. 3, 1944. [Class 99 (i)] [Also in Group XXVI] A flexible joint for concrete, cast iron, or other pipes carrying fluid under pressure includes a packing member comprising a rubber ring adapted to be compressed into engagement with the pipe walls. The joint shown has ,a rubber ring 1 with guard rings 2 of metal, wood, or the like on two opposite sides of it, and bolts 3 passing through the composite member and adapted, on tightening the nuts 4, to draw the rings 2 together so that the rubber will be deformed into sealing engagement with an annular recess 9 in at least one of the pipe walls 6, 7. An annular flange may be preformed on the rubber for engagement with the recess. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 describes also a similar joint in which the provision of a recess such as 9 is not essential. Fig. 10 (Cancelled) is an example of a joint for steel pipes in which a ring 10 is welded on to the pipe 7 to serve as a locking catch ; one of the guard rings may be welded to one of the pipes for a similar purpose. This subjectmatter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
