Abstract

599,349. Rope ladders. BUTTERFIELD, C. S. Sept. 17, 1945, No. 23893. [Class 20 (ii) ] The treads 3 of a rope ladder are supported in thimbles which may comprise two outwardly bowed channel section members 1 which in turn are embraced by twin ropes 2 gripped together immediately above and below the thimbles by metal clip devices which as shown comprise two short semi-cylindrical pieces 6 clamped together by a nut 9 and bolt 7 passing through the two ropes. The treads are notched as at 4 to receive the thimbles and ropes and the thimbles may be further secured to the treads by screws entering the treads at the base of the notches 4. The pieces 6 may be provided with ribs to help in gripping the ropes and the thimbles may be modified by having coacting lugs by which the two halves may be bolted together or projecting integral parts for positively locating the tread, apart from the screws.
