Abstract

<PICT:0598486/III/1> A fluid material, the examples given being milk, orange juice, beer or latex, is subjected to an electrostatic field while passing in a stream or jet through a gaseous medium. In the example shown, a stream of fluid 5, from a reservoir 1 and nozzle 3, is passed through, and out of contact with a tubular glass shield 25, carrying two coaxial electrodes 21, 23, of cylindrical form, connected to a high frequency electric generator 9. A perforated screen may be inserted in the nozzle to minimise turbulence. In another example, the tubular screen is omitted, and a pair of arcuate electrodes are spaced apart from the fluid stream on opposite sides.
