[Class 80(iii)] [Also in Group XIX] Movement amplifying means comprises a series of short levers fulcrumed on knife edges, balls, cylinders or other means with transmitting means preferably in the form of balls or cylinders. As shown in Fig. 3, four movable plates 12, 20, 23, 24 are each fulcrumed on a pair of balls 16, lying on stationary plates 17, 29, 31, 32 fixed in a casing 30 and spaced apart by rings 33, 34, 35. A movement applied to the top plate is transmitted to the other movable plates successively through balls 19 working freely in holes 18 in the stationary plates, the final amplified movement being indicated by a pointer 28 against a scale. The three balls beneath each movable plate are held in cages 21 and each plate is urged by a spring, so that alternate springs act in opposite senses about the fulcra. The springs and weights of parts are so chosen in counter balance as to reduce to a minimum the force to be exerted on the top plate to actuate the pointer 28.
