Abstract
596,998. Indicating oil pressures. SMITH & SONS (ENGLAND), Ltd., S., and RUFFLE, W. H. July 9, 1945, No. 17500. [Class 40 (i)] [Also in Group XXXVI] The pressure capsule of an oil lubricating system may be applied to abut the head 32 of a push rod 18 in a carbon pile resistance 14, whereby movement of the rod 18 in response to pressure changes controls differentially the compression of the top and lower stack parts 15, 16 of the carbon pile 14 to produce a change in effective resistance of the latter and therefore in the actuation of an electrical indicator calibrated in terms of pressure. The carbon pile 14 may be initially compressed independently of the controlling pressure applied to the head 32.
