[Class 94 (i)] Apparatus for packaging cylindrical articles, particularly preformed cylinders of explosives, comprises a strip of pliable material secured at each end to a firm backing and having a predetermined amount of slack and passing over a roller adapted to rotate in a handle and to be drawn to and fro from one end of the backing to the other. A roller 22, Figs. 1 and 4, rotatably attached to a handle 21, Figs. 1, 4, and 5, is positioned between a table 1, and a pliable strip 2 secured thereto at each end. An article 24 is placed on a wrapper 23 on one end of the strip, and the roller 22 is brought over to form a loop 25 substantially enclosing the article. The handle 21 is then drawn along to the other end of the table, causing the article to be enclosed in the wrapper, passing between guides 3 and up an incline 26 designed to prevent slipping of the wrapper along the table, and between fingers 4 which form overlapping folds, and thence between boards 13 to a position between pins 8 fixed to pedal-operated jaws 5, the pins passing through holes in the boards 13 and completing the package by pressing the wrapper against the ends of the article. Slots 28 separating the fingers 4 may slope forwardly from the outside to inside, and the line joining the tops of the fingers may slope upwardly and forwardly.
