Abstract
596,180. Shear legs. MORRISONS ENGINEERING, Ltd., COLLINS, W. G., and McGIVENEY, G. P. July 24, 1945, No. 18898. [Class 78(iv)] Hoisting - apparatus tor unloading transport vehicles - comprises two pairs of shear legs C spaced apart to lie on opposite sides of the vehicle in the direction of the length of a transfer track A, at least one of the shear legs being collapsable so that having raised the load from the vehicle by the shear leg tackle, the vehicle is withdrawn and the load lowered on to transfer means, e.g. bogies B, whereby it can be laterally transferred over the collapsed shear leg and along the said track A. In Fig. 2 each shear leg C may have two uprights C<1> supported on base D by detachable uprights C<5>. Each pair of uprights C<1> is pivotable at its base and supports over pulley C<2> a cable F<2> which passes over hoist drum F<1> to central eye G4. From the eyes G4 the pair of cables support framework G (made of tubular sections) by ropes G3 at each side. The two pairs of shear legs are mounted on central ground frame E on each side of which is placed a ramp over the rails A. Lorry carrying prefabricated house is driven up ramp on to central ground frame E between shear legs. By means of shear-legs tackle. ' house is raised into air and lorry is driven off. House is lowered on to bogies B (which are brought up). One shear leg is dismantled to the ground and the bogie, carrying house are moved off over this shear-legs to housing site.
