Abstract
N4-Succinylaminobenzene sulphonyl chloride is made by reacting on succinyl aniline with chlorsulphonic acid, and may then be converted to the corresponding sulphonamides by the action of ammonia or aliphatic or aromatic primary amine. In examples: (1) succinanilic acid is reacted with chlorsulphonic acid and the N4-succinylsulphanilyl chloride precipitated by pouring on to ice; (2) N4-succinylsulphanilamide is made by treating N4-succinylsulphanilyl chloride with aqueous ammonia; (3) N1-methyl-N4-succinylsulphanilamide is made by stirring N4-succinylsulphanilyl chloride with methylamine and aqueous sodium carbonate; and (4) N1-phenyl-N4-succinylsulphanilamide is made by heating N4-succinylsulphanilyl chloride with aniline in benzene. Instead of methylamine and aniline, also ethylamine, butylamine, the toluidines and the xylidines may be used. Specifications 502,558, 562,763 and 595,039 are referred to.
