[Class 78(i)] [Also in Group XXIX] An automatic dust valve associated with dust collecting apparatus and comprising an outlet, a seating surrounding said outlet, and a pivotally mounted valve member adapted to engage the seating to close the outlet whereby dust may collect on the valve member, the valve member being mounted on a spindle so as to close the outlet when there is a negative pressure within the dust collecting apparatus exceed ing the weight of dust on the valve member and to be opened when the pressure of dust collected on the valve member neutralises said negative pressure, is characterised in that the valve member is carried on an arm attached to the spindle, and the said spindle is mounted on knife-edge bearings upon which it is adapted to roll. In the embodiment shown, a valve body 10, secured to a pipe line in a dust collecting apparatus, provides a seating 16 which is normally closed by a valve plate 25 mounted on an arm 21 secured to a spindle 20 which is mounted on knife-edge bearings 19 formed in brackets 17 secured to the lower portion 13 of the valve body. The plate 25 is secured loosely to the arm 21 by a pair of screw-threaded bolts whereby it may have a small rocking movement on a member 23 secured to the arm. Adjustment of the valve is effected by means of an adjustable counterweight 31 on an arm 30 secured to the plate 21.
