Abstract

593,652. Locks. L.B. FABRICATION DE SERRURES DE SURETE. SOC. ANON. June 18, 1945, No. 15472. Convention date, July 12, 1944. [Class 44] A safety lock, particularly for bicycles in that it can be mounted on a bicycle frame by means of a plate 2 secured removably by a dove-tail connection to one of its sides, comprises a fixed casing I in which is slidably mounted a bolt 3, having a solid cylindrical rod 31 intended to engage in a recess in a locking device on the wheel, and a hollow cylindrical part 4 provided with a hollow longitudinal rib 5, which has a small side projection 6 guided in a slide .7 in the casing and acted upon by a spiral spring 8 which tends to keep the lock in the released position ; a revolving barrel lock controlled by sectioned, spring- urged pin-tumblers is mounted in the hollow part 4 of the bolt, the barrel 9 having a radial pin 16 the head of which co-operates with a radial slit 17 in the part 4 of the bolt and engages in a U-shaped slide 18 in the wall of the casing 1 to which the plate 2 is secured. Thus by introducing the correct key into the passage 10 in the barrel when the lock is released and by giving it a quarter turn, the bolt can be pushed from right to left, (Fig. 4), the head of the pin 16 now lying at the left hand side of the transverse branch of the slide 18 ; the key is now given a quarter turn in the opposite direction, so that the head of the pin 16 lies at the top of the left-hand side arm of the slide 18, in which position the bolt is locked and the key can be removed. For unlocking, the key is inserted in the same angular position as for locking, and given a quarter turn ; the bolt is then released under the action of the spring 8. The right angle 18<1> of the slide 18 is rounded to facilitate the return of the bolt into the unlocked position. The slide 18 may be of a more complicated shape, involving more than two rotations of the key and one axial displacement of the bolt for operation.
