Abstract

573,414. Locking bolts. STEVENS, W. W. Sept. 14, 1943, No. 15033. [Class 44] [Also in Group XXXI] Means for locking one of the wheels of a cycle against rotation comprises a flat bolt 11 slidable in a two-part metal casing 1, 3 secured to one of the frame tubes or stays, the bolt when in the protruded position shown passing between the spokes of the wheel (not shown) and being locked both in this position and in its retracted position, in which the wheel is free, by a spring- loaded pin 18 which can only be withdrawn by means of a special key 23. The key is formed as a nut adapted to engage a screw thread on the end of the pin 18. The pin is squared at 22 to prevent its rotation and its inner end 17 can engage in either of two holes 15, 16 in the bolt 11. The bolt is normally retracted by a spring 13 and is pushed by hand into the locking position after the pin 18 has been withdrawn. The parts 1, S of the casing are secured together by rivets 4, and the casing and a clamp 6 are secured to a frame tube by means of screws 8 the heads of which are accessible through holes in the casing part 3 only when the bolt is in its retracted position. Flanges 7 are formed on the clamp 6 to prevent turning of the screws 8 by means of pliers.
