[Class 51 (ii)] A distribution system for delivering a combustion medium into the underfiring system of an underjet coke oven is characterized by a header pipe with a plurality of outlets therealong and pipe connections leading from the outlets to different regions of the underfiring system; and by a device for regulating the flow of said combustion medium through said connections, which comprises, a ceramic body supported by a metallic support, plug, bushing or the like removably held in the pipe connection. The coke-oven battery includes coking chambers 10 with heating flues 12 connected by cross-over ducts 13. Non-regeneratively-preheated fuel gas is delivered from a main 13, through wall header pipes 22, through pipes 28 extending vertically through a battery-supporting mat 24, through means 31, into under-jet ducts 23 and into heating flues 12. Horizontal conduits 25 connect the lower ends of the ducts 23 which serve the flame flues and the combustion product flues. The combustion flow regulating means 31, Fig. 4, comprises a ceramic tube 32, with a calibrated aperture 33 at its upper end, screwed, at its lower end, into a metallic bushing 34 itself screwed into a metallic disc 45, with a gas-tight seal 39, welded into the upper part of the pipe 28, which latter is screwed into a metallic block 29 resting on, and in sliding contact with, the upper surface of the mat 24.
