Abstract
593,533. Junction-boxes. NOBLE, N. E., and BUCKINGHAM, J. June 1, 1945, No. 13837. [Class 38 (i)] A liquid-filled junction-box which comprises a body a with a hermetically sealed cover b has cable glands g and a flexible wall o which is displaced by pressure external to the box. The cable glands have rubber sleeves h which bind on the cable when the glands are pressed in position by a yoke j. The flexible wall which may be a rubber diaphragm is secured by bolts q and is protected by a perforated guard p, through which pressure can affect the wall to force the insulating liquid which fills the box to a prescribed level, through apertures e into the cable glands and between the cable conductors, thus enhancing the sealing of the box. Instead of a rubber diaphragm a piston sliding in a cylindrical aperture in the wall of the junction-box may be employed.
