Abstract
593,143. Electric incandescent lamps. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. Oct. 11. 1944, No. 19605. Convention date, Oct. 11, 1943. [Class 39 (ii)] In attaching the lead-in wires to the fllament of an electric lamp, more particularly of the high-wattage type, the filament 24 is provided with composite end portions each comprising a coil 31 and straight core 28 extending therethrough, with portions of the coil and core respectively extending in side - by - side relation transversely across the associated lead-in wire 21 to which they are individually welded at different points along its length. As shown, the outer end portions of the filament coils 24 terminate in straight end legs 28 which form cores to receive separate coils 31 of heat-resisting metal, such as tungsten, molybdenum or an alloy thereof, which fit closely thereon and have an open coiled portion 32 that can be arranged beside the end leg across the lead-in wire 21 to which they are both welded individually. Alternatively, the coils 31 are integral with the filament coils and fit over straight lengths of wire that form the cores. Additional support for the filament is provided by an anchor wire 26 which is mounted on a glass rod 22 carried by short end wires 23 welded to the lead-in wires.
