Abstract
592,996. Stuffing - box substitutes. GENERAL TIRE & RUBBER CO. June 5, 1945, No. 14149. Convention date, July 17, 1944. [Class 122 (v)] A sealing ring comprises an annular inextensible retaining shell 17 and an elastic rubber sealing band 12 within the shell adapted to. be expanded and held by circmnferential tension against the surface of a member 10 having an external diameter greater than the normal internal diameter of the band, and a soft cushioning band 22 interposed between the sealing band and shell and adapted to be placed under radial compression between the extended band and shell. In a modification, the tubular end of the sealing band is of U-cross-section to embrace the cushioning band.
