Abstract
592,201. Control of D.C. motors. SULZER FRERES SOC. ANON. Feb. 12, 1945, No. 3460. Convention date, March 9, 1944. Addition to 592,193. [Class 38 (iii)] [Also in, Group XXXV] To avoid overloading of the contacts of the motor field regulator switch in a control system for an internal - combustion engine-electric vehicle drive 1-4 as described in the parent Specification, means are provided to ensure that the moving contact of the switch, in moving from one fixed contact to another, comes to rest only when completely engaging a fixed contact. In the system shown, control of the field accelerator resistors 30, 31 of motor 4 is effected by a drum controller 60 actuated by a reversible electric servomotor 56 - 58, the energization and direction of rotation of the latter being under the control of contacts 53-55 associated with the generator voltage regulating servomotor 12. Positive engagement of the drum contacts 73-77 with the drum is effected by a notched plate 65, which rotates with the drum, and a locking bar 66 having a tongue 66<1> for entering the notches. The bar is supported on springs 69, 72 and is moved into ' release ' position to allow rotation of the drum by electromagnets 67, 70, one of which becomes energized when contact 53 engages either of contacts 54, 55. When this occurs servomotor 56-58 starts up and runs until contact 53 is again clear of 54, 55. The energization of the servomotor and electro-magnet then ceases and the momentum of the drum rotates the latter until tongue 66<1> springs into the next notch. Alternatively, the drum controller may haul additional contacts 61-64, 78, 79, which together with contacts 68, 71, actuated by the electromagnets, permit further energization of the servomotor to the extent necessary for the engagement of the tongue with the next notch. A modified arrangement makes use of a single electro-magnet.
