Abstract
592,082. Hot-water boilers ; heating air. POTTERTON, T. F. C., BROOKS, E. G., and HARROW, R. F. Sept. 11, 1944, No. 17307. [Classes 64 (i) and 64 (iii)] [Also in Group XI] A domestic boiler comprises an inner boiler a with a solid fuel combustion chamber b surrounded by an outer casing j forming combustion chambers (not shown) in which gaseous fuel is burnt, so that either or both of the fuels may be used to heat the boiler, the outlet flue r for the combustion gases from the chamber b being provided with a damper and a check draught valve which controls admission of air to the flue, the damper and the check draught valve being coupled together in such manner that closure of the damper causes opening of the check draught valve. As shown the damper and the check draught valve form a single unit n which is movable by a lever. The combustion chambers for gaseous fuel are formed at the sides of the boiler, and are connected to the space at the top of the back of the boiler. When the unit n is in the position shown, gaseous fuel is not used, and air flowing through the side chambers is heated and escapes into the room through the opening q. Secondary air for the combustion chamber b is heated in travelling through a passage g<1> from an inlet g. Fins on the sides of the boiler causes the gases in the side combustion chambers to flow in a tortuous path.
