Abstract

<PICT:0589879/III/1> <PICT:0589879/III/2> In processes for the catalytic conversion of hydrocarbons, e.g., cracking, refining, reforming hydrogenation, dehydrogenation, desulphurization, isomerisation &c. of the kind in which a moving bed of contact material is cycled downwardly through reaction and regeneration zones the time of reaction is varied by varying the length of path of the gaseous reactants through the contact bed, e.g., by introducing the hydrocarbon vapours or removing them at different levels in the reactor or by providing the feed or take-off pipes for the gases or contact material with telescopic extensions variable in length. In Fig. 1 where the conversion plant comprises a reactor 12 and a regenerator 32 with conveyors 31, 42 for cycling the catalyst, the reaction vapours are supplied and removed through conduits 10, 14, 15, 21, 22, 23 arranged at different levels. In Fig. 2 the conduits 17, 52 for the reaction products and catalysts are provided with extensible tubes 43, 48 raised or lowered by hydraulic pistons 49, 46 operating rods 45, 51.
