Abstract
589,840. Inductoralternators. FLETCHER, G. H., MANDL, A., and METROPOLITAN - VICKERS ELECTRICAL CO., Ltd. March 19, 1945, No. 6865. [Class 35] In an inductor alternator, the stator comprises two unlaminated concentric cylindrical portions, each carrying a wound laminated toothed annulus, the two portions being magnetically united at one end, the annular space between being occupied by an exciting coil and by an overhung cylindrical rotor having magnetic and non-magnetic portions arranged alternately around its periphery. In the form shown, the rotor comprises a series of bars 7a secured to a non-magnetic disc 4 and projecting between two laminated rings 10, 10a on the stator 12, 13 and the A.C. windings 11, 11a can be connected in series or parallel, two-phase or may feed separate circuits. They may surround alternate teeth and the two sets of teeth are displaced half a tooth pitch in the case of a two phase machine. The rotor may be carried by the shaft 1 of a locomotive, a hollow link for the passage of leads to the windings limiting the movement of the stator. There may be non-magnetic inserts to prevent diversion of the flux produced by coil 16. Specification 582,384 is referred to.
