Abstract
588,450. Endless-belt conveyers. MITCHELL, F. G. Jan. 1, 1945, No. 71. [Class 78 (i) In an endless conveyer of the carrier type, the carrying means for supporting an endless-belt member comprises an articulated structure having a plurality of wheeled carriages connected end to end for running on a track, and supporting means that is carried by the structure for supporting the upper run of the belt, the articulated structure being so constructed that it can flex in both a vertical and horizontal plane. Fig. 6 shows a carrier comprising two side members 44, 46, cross braced by a pair of members 48, 50, and a pair of belt supporting members 52, 54. The side members converge at one end to provide a coupling pin hole 42, the other end being provided with an axle 28 and wheels 30, 32. Pivoted to the axle 28 is a triangular structure which serves to couple a following carrier. A train of such carriers is capable of flexure in a horizontal plane about their pivots 42 and in a vertical plane about their axles 28. When coupled to form a conveyer the carriers run on rails 14, 15, 16, 17 in a closed circuit as shown in Figs 1a, 1b and are propelled by means of creepers 56, 58 whose dogs 60 engage the axles 28. At the end of the straight run the carriers move in the loop 8 whilst the belt passes over a drum 10 to rejoin the carriers on the lower track. The material on one belt may. be transferred to another by a shoot 63.
