Abstract
588,370. Electron-discharge apparatus. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd., MARSH, W. W., and WELCH, P. Sept. 1, 1944, No. 16724. [Class 39 (i.)] In an electron-discharge device, particularly of the velocity-modulated type, two control electrodes having apertures, the edges of which are in close proximity, are so shaped that at least a portion of one electrode projects beyond the surface of the other. As shown in exploded view, Fig. 1, one electrode 4, semicylindrical in section, has protrusions 12 aligned with clearance areas 17, 18 in the plane electrode 5. The electrodes are assembled as shown in section in Fig. 2, so that the edges 13, 14 of the rectilinear slot in electrode 4 are in proximity to the edges 15, 16 of the parallel slot in electrode 5, the bulges 12 extending beyond the plane of electrode 5. The electrodes may be embodied in an electrongun system of a device of the type described in Specification 537,490.
