Abstract
588,030. Control of A.C. motors. IGRANIC ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., and WEST, R. A. March 9, 1944, No. 4426. [Class 38 (iii)] In a control system for a polyphase induction motor of the slip-ring type, the motor is brought to rest by opening the main contacts 3 and closing the braking-contacts 7, and approximately at the same time inserting the resistance 4 in circuit with the rotor winding 2. Consequently, one stator winding is short-circuited, and the voltage applied to another reversed, thereby producing a magnetic field greater than normal and a powerful braking-effort. The contacts 7 may open, under the control of a timing-relay, after a period sufficient to enable the motor to come to rest. Interlocks ensure that the contacts 3 and 7 are not closed together. The Specification describes also the application of the invention to a two-phase motor with a threewire supply, a two-phase motor with a fourwire supply and a three-phase motor with its primary connected in star. The rotor windings can be connected in either star or mesh. An automatic sequence control subject to stop and start push-button switches is described.
