Abstract

587,297. Skating and snow-running devices. TRACHSLIN, G., and STEBLER, P. Nov. 14, 1944, Nos. 22495 and 22496. Convention dates, Dec. 3, 1943, and July 26, 1944. [Class 132 (i)] An ice-skatlng and snowrunning device for attachment to a foot comprises a central depending runner secured to a supporting surface extending laterally of the runner, the supporting surface and runner having upwardly curved forward parts, and downwardly directed thrusting means secured to the front of the device. As shown in Figs. 1-3, the runner b is secured to the supporting surface a<1>, which is pointed in the rear and provided with marginal parts a' which may be adjustably hinged (not shown) to the central supporting surface. The marginal parts may be of wood, metal or synthetic material and may be formed integrally with the supporting surface or each half thereof. The supporting surface may be formed in two halves, each of which may comprise two or more longitudinal strips, which may be formed as runners. The forward parts of the runner, supporting surface and marginal parts are curved upwards and the front of the runner is provided with teeth. The thrusting means comprise two steel strips c<1> and c<2>, having downwardly projecting teeth and a sharp lower edge respectively, which are secured to the front of the device by screws or rivets. The marginal parts have apertures a' at the front through which packed snow may escape and are provided with streamlined indentations a<5>. Sole and heel plates d' are supported by brackets d<2>, each plate having sliding clamps d<4>, which may be adjusted by square-ended bolts d<6> passing through central bearings depending from the plates d<1>. In the modification shown in Fig. 4, the sole and heel plates are carried by a bar e which also forms the runner and to which the two halves of the supporting surface h are riveted. Moreover, in a further modification (not shown), rollers may be detachably secured by means of brackets to the edges of the supporting surface to enable the device to be used as a roller skate.
