Abstract

586,154. Amplitude selective circuits. PHILCO RADIO & TELEVISION CORPORATION. July 30, 1943, No. 12424. Convention date, July 31, 1942. [Classes 40 (iii) and 40 (v)] A circuit for separating synchronizing and picture signals in a television receiver comprises a valve 24, Fig. 1, which may be of beam type, which selects signals having amplitudes lying between certain limits and feeds them to the synchronizing circuits 20, and the characteristic on which the valve 24 operates is controlled in accordance with signal strength to vary both limits of selection. In the examples described, the control is effected at the screen grid of valve 24 which is coupled with the output circuit of valve 9 feeding valve 24 so as to be subject to slow variations transmitted to the control grid of tube 24 and not to rapid variations. The screen load of valve 9 is chosen to peak at a lower frequency than the anode load as described in Specification 530,319. Valve 9 may afford an output which is substantially independent of input, but may be arranged to select a portion of the input of which the magnitude varies with signal strength. In a modification (Fig. 3, not shown), a valve equivalent to valve 9, Fig. 1, has its effective anode and cathode potentials varied in accordance with the slow variations of the input to afford additional control of the tube characteristic.
