Abstract
585,914. Wireless signalling apparatus. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd., and SMYTH, C. N. Dec. 19, 1941, No. 16437. [Class 40 (v)] A screening box for a thermionic valve of the disc-seal type such as that described in Specification 585,448, comprises a metal box E having a partition B divided into two halves at line X, the upper half sliding in guides C. Each half of the screen is made of two sheets of metal held together by screws and spring washers D. In assembly, the top half B is removed and a disc-seal valve is inserted in the aperture with the disc lying between the two plates of the screen and the top half is replaced. This effectively screens the anode end of the valve from the cathode end, and the grid, which is connected to the disc is earthed. If this is not desired, the two sheets comprising the screen may be lined with thin mica sheets, which will then only earth the grid for high frequencies. More than one partition may be provided and the box is provided with a metal lid having overlapping edges.
