Abstract

584,470. Friction clutches. EVERY, C. E. (Hilliard Corporation). Oct. 25, 1944, No. 20778. [Class 80 (ii)] Centrifugal clutch-shoes 11 are each drivingly connected for radial movement on a driving boss 5 by radial wedge-shaped teeth 10, and are pressed out of contact with a surrounding driven drum 7 by diaphragm-springs 14, 18, each having a series of radial fingers 15 bent to engage wedge-grooves 16 in the sides of the shoes, spring-pressure being adjusted by a common nut 17. The toothed guide 10 permits the remaining shoes to be redistributed for massbalance after one or more shoes have been removed to effect a further increase in the range of adjustment, and also permits shaft misalignment. The driven drum 7 may be formed as a multi-V-grooved pulley journalled at each side on the boss 5 (Fig. 4, not shown).
